Atlanta: Building on last year's successful event, SoCon08 will prove that collectively we know more than we do individually. SoCon07 provided an insightful introduction to everything Web 2.0, but nothing stands still. This year's event will focus on the evolution of the social media landscape and what you must know to stay ahead of the curve in 2008.
Jeff Haynie, the co-founder and CEO of Appcelerator, will open SoCon08 and help set the stage with his unique perspective that encompasses both a social and technical point of view. Immediately following, Jeff will be joined by Sherry Heyl, CEO and Idealist of What a Concept! and Leonard Witt, Kennesaw State University's Fowler Distinguished Chair. Together, they will lead an open discussion on how far we've come and where we're going. Social media guru Josh Hallett of HyKu will summarize the conversational pieces and provide insight into where we are headed in 2008.
This year's keynote speaker will be Chris Heuer. As the Founder of Social Media Club, he has spent the last year and a half evangelizing Social Media by encouraging people to gather and learn from each other in round tables, unconferences and other "in the flesh" events all over the world. As a Partner with The Conversation Group, Chris works with the 'champions' inside large corporations and technology start-ups to leverage the power of conversation for building stronger, more efficient markets.
In his keynote, Chris will be sharing his insights on the power of Social Media and its potential to "re-humanize" business and society. According to Chris, "The potential for Social Media to create meaningful relationships between organizations and the people they serve is boundless. In order to seize this transformational opportunity however, we must make business personal again. In order to thrive, we must understand the technology.and MASTER our own voice." Sherry Heyl says, \"It is exciting to see how far we have come in regards to learning how social media can empower us as individuals. I am very excited that we have the opportunity to introduce metro Atlanta to Chris Heuer and his idealism of how social media can change the world.\"
